Eran los primeros albores del nuevo siglo cuando nuestras tierras recibían desde la Europa Balcánica, más exactamente desde Serbia, al joven Don Alejandro Radulovich en el año 1927. En principio se dedicó a la construcción, trabajó en el Obelisco a los Constituyentes en Montevideo, en la hoy ruta 36 y en viviendas en el pueblo y en la campaña.
Hacia 1942 inicia el emprendimiento de un Aserradero, sobre la calle Máximo Tajes, una actividad atípica, desusada para los habitantes de la zona de Los Cerrillos; y para muchos otros lugares del país.
La explotación de madera, la tala de árboles, el proceso para convertir la materia prima en tablas para cajón, con destino al uso agropecuario y de la industria, tablas para la construcción, postes, piques, rolos para la calefacción, constituyeron sus principales rubros.
Así, junto a su señora Doña María Luisa Acosta, formaron los pilares del Aserradero, proporcionando una fuente de trabajo importantísima para la zona, la cual continúa hasta nuestros días.
Una industria local que atravesó el tiempo y se prolonga con nuevas realizaciones. El espíritu pionero de Don Alejandro sigue presente... y el Aserradero es un referente en Los Cerrillos.
In the early years of a new century, our land welcomed a young man from the Balkans — more precisely from Serbia — Don Alejandro Radulovich, who arrived in 1927. He first worked in construction, contributing to the Obelisk of the Constitutional Assembly in Montevideo, to what is now Route 36, and to homes in the village and countryside.
Around 1942 he started a sawmill on Máximo Tajes street — an unusual venture for the people of Los Cerrillos, and indeed for many other parts of the country.
Timber harvesting, tree felling, and converting raw material into boards for crates, agricultural use, construction, fence posts, and firewood became the mill's core activities.
Together with his wife, Doña María Luisa Acosta, they laid the foundations of the Sawmill, creating an important source of employment for the region — one that continues to this day.
A local industry that has stood the test of time and continues to grow with new achievements. Don Alejandro's pioneering spirit lives on... and Aidara remains a landmark in Los Cerrillos.
